Thomas was born in 1877 and according to the 1911 Census he was living at 3 Longton Lane, Rainhill. However by enlistment in 1915 he had moved to Holt Lane.
On 24th January 1895 he had married Alice Parr and they had eight children. His occupation was that of a toolmaker.
Although he enlisted into the South Lancashire Regiment, at some time he transferred into the Reserve Battalion of the Liverpool Regiment in August 1915 with a service number of 30646.
Records indicate that he forfeited 5 days’ pay for going AWOL in November 1915 for 4 days.
Regularly on a charge for going AWOL he was demobbed in January 1919.
