Walter lived at 14 Tasker Terrace with his wife Ada and two children, Percy and Walter. His occupation was that of a gardener. Records show that he may have originally hailed from Manchester as he was married there in 1904.
Army records show that while he was on parade (it is not known whether in the U.K. or aboard) in 1917 he suffered an attack of bronchitis. The condition eventually led to him being discharged having spent some time in the 2nd Western General Hospital in Manchester.

The map above shows Tasker Terrace where Walter lived in one of the houses on the left-hand side. It was the original road to the level crossing over the Liverpool to Manchester railway.
