Fred enlisted in Warrington in September 1914, almost as soon as the Battalion was formed. They moved quickly to Tidworth and by December 1914 were based in Andover. The Battalion went to France on 18th July 1915 and Fred went with them.
At some point in his service, Fred was transferred to the 10th Battalion as Private 12078. That was a Training Battalion based in the UK, so it is not clear as to why he transferred.
He was discharged on 1st November 1918, reasons unknown but probably because he was no longer fit for service.
Acknowledgment: Stephen Nulty and Joan Owen (Daughter)
