Vera HUGHES
​

Vera Hughes was serving with the WAAF at RAF Sleap in Shropshire when a Whitley Bomber swerved off the runway and crashed into the Control Tower in which she was working. The whole lot went up in flames and she perished along with six others including four crew. She previously worked at Rainhill Hospital.
​

Aircraft Woman Vera Hughes died on 7th September 1943 aged 21 and is buried in St Ann's churchyard.
