Little is known of John's wartime record at present except that he did receive the MC and bar and after the war he lived at Heyes Mount, Rainhill and worked for Pilkington Glass as their chief solicitor.
He was an honorary member of 'The Association of the Big 7'. This was a secret post-war group of 5th South Lancs officers who survived the war. Full members (7 in all) were pre-war BICC employees. They allowed in 4 honorary members, of which one was John (as a non-BICC employee).
They met for dinner each year until 1931 to celebrate their survival and toast those who did not. Photos remain of the dinners and menus from the meetings.
