Samuel was born in 1891 and he enlisted at the beginning of the war. At some stage, he was wounded in the arm by shrapnel.
In 1926 he married Ellen (Nellie) Lay and a son Alan was born in 1926.
He was a well known local billiards player and in 1922 won the Prescot Championships.
He died in 1950.
